Evangelos Marinakis has outlined his determination to restore Nottingham Forest to English football’s elite after another ambitious transfer campaign.

Despite selling homegrown star Brennan Johnson to Tottenham for £47.5million on the final day of the summer window, Forest also added seven new players on the same day, including midfielder Ibrahim Sangare for a club-record £30m from PSV Eindhoven.

Even without any of the new arrivals in the starting XI, Forest then delivered one of their best results since returning to the Premier League last season, winning 1-0 at Chelsea on September 2.

In an open letter to supporters, Marinakis wrote: ‘Our vision is clear and unwavering: we are on a path to re-establish Nottingham Forest as a dominant force in English football.

‘We are investing in youth development, nurturing young talent, and building a squad that can compete at the highest level for years to come.

‘The plan was very clear and well calculated. It was the culmination of months of analysis and research, collaborative meetings with our staff, and the relentless pursuit of some of the best talent in world football.

‘When players of the quality of those we have brought in this summer choose Nottingham Forest over the other dominant European clubs chasing their signatures, they choose us because they have fully invested in what we want to achieve.’

Marinakis also hinted he plans to give the City Ground a significant upgrade. Forest’s home was a huge factor in their survival last season, as a raucous atmosphere helped them collect 30 of their final total of 38 points there.

He added: ‘As the City Ground marks its 125th anniversary this week, we have great plans for the future of our historic home on the banks of the Trent.’
