Chelsea might have a strong chance to sign Ivan Toney in January after the Brentford forward switched agency. Toney has been linked with a transfer in the winter window once he has served his gambling ban.

The 27-year-old was banned from football for eight months in May after he admitted 232 breaches of the Football Association’s betting rules. He cannot play a competitive game until January 17.

But that has not prevented speculation that he could join a new team in the January window. Toney insists that Brentford are aware of his desire to play for one of the Premier League’s Big Six.

Chelsea might believe that they have an advantage after Toney announced that he has switched agencies to CAA after the company merged with Stellar. The Blues have a strong CAA contingent among their squad.

And that can only be a positive for Chelsea given that they reportedly face strong competition for the striker from the likes of Man Utd, Arsenal and Tottenham.

The Gunners were one of the clubs Toney recently named as a team he would be interested in joining when he eventually leaves Brentford, for whom he scored 21 goals last season.

“Everyone wants to play at the top of the tree. Not that Brentford aren’t there, but everyone wants to play for these big clubs and compete for trophies,” Toney said on the Diary Of A CEO podcast.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. The manager knows that I want to play at the highest level possible and whenever that time comes, so be it.

“My time at Brentford has been probably the best of my career. The next club I go to will be the right club. I am a Liverpool fan my whole life.

“I have liked Arsenal from young, how they play and how passionate their fans are.
