If you hadn’t heard, James Maddison\u00a0likes to be the main man.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On the pitch and, as the\u00a0Tottenham and England playmaker declared in the week, at the family Sunday roast.<\/p>\n
‘It’s not a conscious effort to try to be the showman,’ Maddison said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘That’s just how I play football. That’s just how I am as a person, when I go for a roast dinner with my family, I like to be the main man.’<\/p>\n
Questions raged, naturally, over what constitutes being the main man at a roast dinner. Carving duty, surely? First dibs on the gravy? Extra roast potatoes?<\/p>\n

If you haven’t heard, Tottenham and England playmaker James Maddison likes to be the main man – both on the pitch and, as he declared in the week, off it at the family Sunday roast as well<\/p>\n

The attacking midfielder certainly takes the spotlight as lynchpin at Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
But he was off the boil for England in Saturday evening’s 1-1 draw against Ukraine in Poland<\/p>\n
The way he speaks and finds the spotlight, you can see Maddison being a manager one day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
There’s more than a touch of his former boss at Leicester,\u00a0Brendan Rodgers, about him. Main man first, future coach second, probably entertainer third.<\/p>\n
Maddison is certainly the main man for Ange Postecoglou\u00a0at Tottenham. He’s been the lynchpin for their superb start.<\/p>\n
The most shots, the most chances created, the most involvement in play. For England, he has not matched his Spurs form.<\/p>\n
Gareth Southgate rewarded his form with a start against Ukraine but Maddison struggled to make an impact.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He drifted inside off his unnatural left-wing berth to get on the ball, but mustered no shots, created his only chance from a corner, was booked in the first-half and subbed before 70 minutes.<\/p>\n
