Few trends in football are as well established as that of footballers spending outrageous amounts of money on their cars.

The sight of a player driving around in a vehicle worth several hundreds of thousands of pounds – if not far more – is almost as common as fans arguing over a VAR decision.

From Cristiano Ronaldo’s £8.5million Bugatti to Mauro Icardi’s eye-watering £22.3m Rolls-Royce, footballers aren’t afraid to splash their cash on cars.

At the same time, as Stephen Ireland’s extravagant pink wheeled-Range Rover and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s fleet of gold cars suggest, taste can leave a lot to be desired.

Here, Mail Sport takes a look at some of the best garages in world football, from the expensive to the aesthetically outrageous and everything in between.

Your browser does not support iframes.

Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese superstar is famous for his love of cars and boasts a collection worth a combined £18million.

From a £2m Bugatti Chiron to a £500,000 Ferrari 599 GTO and a McLaren Senna worth £750,000, the 37-year-old is famous for his mega-expensive motors.

His vast array of supercars also comprises two Rolls-Royces: the Cullinan worth £300,000 and the Phantom Drophead coupe, which costs around £500,000.

Cristiano Ronaldo owns a limited-edition Bugatti Centodieci worth £8.5million

The Portuguese also boasts Mercedes G-Wagon Brabus worth £600,000, which he received from his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez in 2020

His vast array of supercars include two Rolls-Royce motors: the Cullinan worth £300,000 (right) and the Phantom Drophead coupe (left) which costs around £500,000

Ronaldo’s girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez gifted him a third Rolls-Royce – the Dawn model worth more than £250,000 – last year for his birthday.

The piece de resistance of Ronaldo’s collection, however, is undoubtedly a limited-edition Bugatti Centodieci worth £8.5m.

Ronaldo is believed to be one of only 10 people worldwide to own the supercar, having purchased the 1,600 horsepower monster during his time at Juventus.

In 2017, Ronaldo bought an F12 TDF (Tour de France) – one of only 799 that were made

Ronaldo’s white version of the Ferrari F12 is worth an eye-watering £240,000

Ronaldo has a black Bugatti Veyron which costs £1.7m and reaches a top speed of 254mph

The 38-year-old also also owns a Lamborghini Aventador worth around £260,000

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The former Arsenal and Chelsea striker also boasts quite the collection of cars. Three of his cars are painted gold, while two have psychedelic silver finishes which catch different colours of light from all angles.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s car collection is worth north of £2million

Three of his cars are painted gold, while two have psychedelic silver finishes

The former Arsenal and Chelsea striker also owns a Ferrari ‘La Ferrari’ worth £1m

Marcus Rashford

The Manchester United striker last month splashed £560,000 on a Rolls-Royce Cullinan Blue Shadow, which is one of only 62 made.

The design of the car is inspired by the Karman Line – the enigmatic boundary above Earth where outer space begins – while the car is sprayed Stardust Blue in order to mimic the halo of the Earth’s upper atmosphere.

A 6.75-litre, twin-turbo charged V12 SUV, its audio system includes 18 speakers.

The Blue Shadow is Rashford’s third Rolls-Royce after the Black Badge Wraith and the Black Badge Cullinan, which are worth £700,000 and £390,000 respectively.

The England international’s garage also includes a £280,000 McLaren 765 Long Tail and a £350,000 Lamborghini Urus Performante.

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has added to his stunning car collection with his latest purchase: a Rolls-Royce Cullinan Blue Shadow, which is worth £560,000

Rashford also owns a Rolls-Royce Black Badge Wraith which is worth £700,000

The England star pictured driving his Black Badge Cullinan, which costs £390,000

Also in Rashford’s collection is a Lamborghini Urus Performante, which costs £350,000

Rashford also owns a McLaren 765 Long Tail, which costs £280,000

Mauro Icardi

The Argentine recently splashed £22.3m on a new Rolls-Royce which, even by a footballer’s standards, is an eye-watering amount of money.

The Boat Tail is the most expensive new car in the world, and just three copies of the model have been produced to date.

Icardi now owns one of them, and is in esteemed company as it has been reported that billionaire rapper Jay-Z and his pop star wife Beyonce have one of the others.

The third Boat Tail was sold to an industrialist who has earned his fortune in the pearl industry.

Mauro Icardi splashed £22.3million on a new Rolls-Royce Boat Tail this week

The Boat Tail is the most expensive car in the world and only three have been made

It is clear that the Boat Tail is no ordinary car, and it takes four years for one to be built by hand.

It is no wonder it takes so long given that 1,813 parts need to be fitted to make it a truly unique vehicle.

One wonders whether the Galatasaray striker will dare to drive it through Istanbul’s notoriously bad traffic.

Vincent Kompany

The Belgian is not the first name of the list when one thinks of flashy footballers, but during his time at Manchester City he used to drive around Cheshire in a bright orange Ford Mustang.

Built in 2008, the limited edition muscle car featured a supercharged V8 engine and was one of only 215 special edition of the GT-C coupes sold, each possessing a sun visor signed by the legendary late car designer Carroll Shelby.

Kompany’s car was officially No50 in the set, each of which were signed off at Shelby America headquarters in Las Vegas.

The Burnley manager, however, sold it on Autotrader for a mere £30,000.

Vincent Kompany had a Shelby Mustang GT-C like the one above, which he sold for £30,000

Mario Balotelli

The former Manchester City striker was known for his love of expensive vehicles during his stay in the Premier League and put together an eye-catching collection over the years.

His garage famously featured a Bentley sporting a camo livery, along with a number of Ferraris.

Not that all went smoothly for the Italian behind the wheel, as he had his car impounded a staggering 27 times and was involved in a number of accidents during his time in England.

And the former Inter star has since fallen out of love with supercars, revealing in April he sold his Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

‘In my garage I still have an RSQ8, 500 Abarth and GTR Nismo Nissan with 1400 hp. But I’m also selling the Abarth now,’ Balotelli told the Italian podcast Blick.

Mario Balotelli put together an impressive collection of supercars, which included several Ferraris (above)

The former Manchester City star had his car impounded a staggering 27 times during his spell in the Premier League

Ederson

‘Fabulously wealthy man and his wife dressed in questionable attire over the bonnet of a supercar’ may be a catch-all description in some quarters of Cheshire, but it is fair to Ederson took this particular niche to a whole new level.

In 2019, the Brazilian international and his wife Lais posed for a picture in their driveway, wearing matching £630-a-pair Gucci Princetown velvet slippers and resting on his £433,000 Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster.

Ederson’s collection also includes a McLaren 600lt spider, which he drove as he arrived to training in April after City thrashed Bayern Munich 3-0.

Prices for the car start at £187,920 and rise to around £232,420. I had a white Range Rover and she had a black one with those now-infamous wheels.’

Ireland also famously splashed out on a £264,000 Bentley for his then-girlfriend Jessica Lawlor. The car boasts a 6-litre, 552bhp engine with a top speed of 198mph and can go from naught to sixty in just 4.8 seconds.

Ireland spent £1,000 to change the Bentley’s B winged insignia to Jessica’s initals JL, with £2,000 going on customised red leather seats with the romantic message ‘To Jess Love From Stephen’ stitched into them surrounded by a heart shape.

A further £5,000 went on modified bright red alloy wheels rims has Jessica’s initials.
