Arsenal star Kai Havertz has been booed by his own supporters because they “don’t want him in the side” according to former Gunner Stewart Robson, after the German’s disappointing start to life in north London. Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu paid £65million to take the Germany international from Chelsea, but he is so far yet to live up to his price tag at the Emirates.

Havertz is yet to score his first goal for Arsenal after four Premier League games and often looked wayward in midfield, playing off Eddie Nketiah and trying to fill Granit Xhaka’s boots has not come with immediate success – having been hooked off in the Gunners’ last two games against Fulham and Manchester United.

The 24-year-old has been criticised in the media for his performances, which were summed up with an air shot during the win over United before the international break. Robson has insisted that Havertz was not of the required standard of Chelsea and hasn’t shown that with Arsenal, in debate with a Bundesliga journalist, which is why he claims the Gunners supporters are booing him.

“He wasn’t good enough, that’s why they got rid of him,” Robson told ESPN. “You can’t keep defending players that go to the Premier League from the Bundesliga because you want to say that the Bundesliga is such a great league.

You are trying to say Havertz was good enough for Chelsea, he wasn’t. That’s why they sold him.

“He has gone to Arsenal and the Arsenal fans don’t want him in the side. They are booing him, at the moment. They don’t want him in the team. They can’t understand why Arteta is playing the system that he is playing to fit Havertz into it. He is struggling at Arsenal, at the moment.”

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. A truly modern-looking shirt with a homage to the past, the Nike kit also includes a nod to the club’s iconic Invincible’s side in the finer details while catching the eye with the lightning bolt motif

Arteta has already called for patience with his new signing, while Havertz himself has insisted that he is “relaxed” despite already being under pressure at his new club. “Sure, things like that keep you busy,” Havertz said on international duty when asked about his stuttering start at Arsenal.

“But I’ve often had a phase and that you often only see the negative. It’s not the first club where I’m starting over. Of course, you want to be successful as quickly as possible, but I know that there are phases like that. I try to approach it in a relaxed manner.”

But with the Arsenal faithful seemingly losing trust in Havertz according to Robson and wanting him axed from the starting lineup, the German may have to improve his form sooner rather than later.
