{"id":289496,"date":"2023-09-11T17:34:39","date_gmt":"2023-09-11T17:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportslifetale.com\/?p=289496"},"modified":"2023-09-11T17:34:39","modified_gmt":"2023-09-11T17:34:39","slug":"guardiola-set-to-return-to-city-after-three-weeks-away-from-the-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportslifetale.com\/soccer\/guardiola-set-to-return-to-city-after-three-weeks-away-from-the-club\/","title":{"rendered":"Guardiola set to return to City after three weeks away from the club"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Pep Guardiola set to return to Man City after three weeks away from the club as he underwent &#8217;emergency&#8217; surgery on his back<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pep Guardiola missed Man City&#8217;s last two games as he underwent back surgery<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>He is now set to be return to the club ahead of Saturday&#8217;s trip to West Ham\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pep Guardiola is expected back at Manchester City on Wednesday after back surgery kept him away from the club for more than three weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The 52-year-old was complaining of pain over the summer and underwent an \u2018emergency\u2019 operation performed by Dr Mireia Illueca in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>City maintained that the procedure was routine but it did mean Guardiola missed two Premier League matches before the international break.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant manager Juanma Lillo took charge of victories, a dramatic last-gasp win away at Sheffield United before City then thumped Fulham 5-1, with Erling Haaland netting a hat-trick.<\/p>\n<p>Guardiola remained in contact with the backroom staff throughout his absence but the Catalan\u2019s return will act as a timely boost to the Treble winners ahead of Saturday\u2019s trip to West Ham United.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/11\/16\/75300363-12505297-image-a-26_1694446731051.jpg\" height=\"411\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Pep Guardiola is set to return to Man City after missing the club&#8217;s last two games while undergoing back surgery<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/11\/16\/75300285-12505297-image-a-27_1694446738448.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Assistant manager Juanma Lillo led the Cityzens to back-to-back wins in his absence<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>Some of City\u2019s international stars are set to arrive back in Manchester on Wednesday for a first session since turning out for their national teams.<\/p>\n<p>While Guardiola is expected to be present for that, it is unknown how much physical involvement the manager will have and he could ease his way back into full day-to-day duties.<\/p>\n<p>Popular with the players, Lillo has been helped by backroom team Carlos Vicens, Lorenzo Buenaventura and new coach Inigo Dominguez while Guardiola\u2019s recuperated at home.<\/p>\n<p>Buenaventura \u2013 previously with Guardiola at Barcelona and Bayern Munich &#8211; usually conducts the more strenuous aspects of sessions.<\/p>\n<p>City will be hoping that John Stones proves his fitness ahead of the weekend, with the central defender having not featured since last month\u2019s Community Shield through injury.
