Scotland suffered double disappointment after their 3-1 defeat to England in an international friendly on Tuesday as a last-minute save prevented Georgia pulling level against Norway, which stopped Steve Clarke’s side sealing their place at Euro 2024.

Goals from Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane saw England come away from Hamden Park 3-1 victors.

Harry Maguire’s own goal was not enough as Scotland fell to defeat in front of their home fans.

The disappointment didn’t stop there for Clarke’s side as their Euro 2024 qualifying group opponents Norway and Georgia were in action in the group.

Scotland sit top of the group on 15 points and knew that if Norway dropped points, they would qualify for the tournament next summer.

Norway were 2-1 ahead late on as Georgia launched a last-minute counter-attack.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia broke with the ball and cut inside before unleashing a shot, which Ørjan Nyland reacted well to parry away.

If the strike had found the back of the net, Scotland would be celebrating their place at Euro 2024, despite falling to defeat to England in the international friendly.

It still remains in the hands of Clarke’s men, though, who could seal their place at the tournament when they face Spain next month.

A loss there would see them needing to rely on results elsewhere, or beat Georgia or Norway in their final two matches of the group.

Barring a miracle, Scotland will find themselves at Euro 2024, but the celebrations will have to wait until at least another month.

Clarke will be hoping his side can take a lot from their defeat to England, who they could face in the tournament next summer in Germany.
