Ben Stokes has recorded the highest score in England’s ODI history with a sensational knock during the third ODI against New Zealand at The Oval on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Stokes smashed 182 runs off just 124 balls, hitting nine sixes and 15 fours along the way.<\/p>\n
The Test captain, who has come out of one day retirement ahead of the World Cup, fell just short of a remarkable double century when he was dismissed off the bowling of\u00a0Benjamin Lister.<\/p>\n
Stokes broke the record set by Jason Roy, who scored 180 against Australia in Melbourne\u00a0in 2018.<\/p>\n
He was still some way short of the highest score by any player in the format, that belonging to Rohit Sharma (264 off 172 balls).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Stokes hit nine sixes and 15 fours as he made history at The Oval in London on Wednesday<\/p>\n
Stokes’ innings helped England post a massive score of 368 all out.\u00a0<\/p>\n
England were 13-2 after 16 balls following Trent Boult’s dismissals of Jonny Bairstow (0) – off the first ball of the innings – and Joe Root (4).<\/p>\n
Stokes and Dawid Malan (96 off 95 balls) put on a 199-run stand for the third wicket in sending New Zealand’s bowlers to all corners of the ground.<\/p>\n
Malan came up just short of his fifth ODI century when he was caught behind off Boult after Stokes had reached his fourth hundred in 93 innings, surpassing his previous best ODI knock of 102.<\/p>\n
Stokes’ eventual dismissal, caught by Will Young at square leg off a full toss from pacer Lister, precipitated a collapse by England from 348-5 to being all out 22 balls later for the addition of just 20 runs.<\/p>\n

Stokes recently came of of one day retirement and showed fans exactly why he did<\/p>\n
Roy missed out again for England after having another back spasm hours before the match. The opener missed the first two games with the same problem and could now be a doubt for the World Cup starting in three weeks.<\/p>\n
Harry Brook, who is pushing to replace Roy or another batter in the World Cup squad, dropped out of the team to accommodate the return of Malan, who missed the second ODI after his wife gave birth to their son on Saturday.<\/p>\n
