Piers Morgan hit out at Mikel Arteta for ‘humiliating’ Aaron Ramsdale as the England international was dropped for Arsenal’s Premier League trip to Everton on Sunday.

Ramsdale, 25, joined Arsenal for £30million in 2021 and after earning the number one spot off Bernd Leno, the four-time England international now has the keep hold of the jersey after Arteta added former Brentford stopper David Raya to his squad in the summer in another £30million deal.

And for the first time this summer, Arteta made the call to switch his two goalkeepers for the trip to Goodison Park as the Spain international was handed his debut. But Arteta’s decision didn’t go down well with outspoken Gunners fan Morgan, who took to social media to once again question Arteta’s decisions.

Morgan retweeted the Arsenal team sheet and wrote: “I don’t understand what Ramsdale has done to deserve being dropped? Havertz, yes.. but Ramsdale’s been consistently superb for us. Why humiliate him?” Morgan received a reply that said: “Thats what happens when have 2 elite keepers, gotta keep them both happy so there will be lot of rotation.”

But the Arsenal superfan hit back at the idea of having two goalkeepers capable of being number one at the club rather than a set number one between the sticks. He replied: “I don’t believe in having 2 top ‘keepers with neither knowing who’s No1. Nothing against Raya, who is very good, but don’t like the way Ramsdale’s being treated.”

Following Arsenal’s 1-0 win which saw Raya keep a clean sheet on his debut, Arteta was asked by Sky Sports about his decision to select Raya instead of Ramsdale who played every game in August. He said: "I think I mentioned it that we wanted to build a squad with two quality players in each position, with different characteristics, and we have got that now.

"And to maximise that they have to play games, and we have a lot of things coming up now. And we have the same with other players we have rotated and there will be a lot of game-time in the next few weeks."
