Norwich City footballer Flynn Clarke has been jailed for 12 months after he left six people injured in a head-on crash.

Clarke, 20, was driving a black BMW sports car on April 30, 2022 when he crashed head-on into a camper van on the A47 westbound before another car ploughed into the back of the camper van.

The Scotland U21 international suffered minor injuries, along with two 19-year-old male passengers he was travelling with. Two other 19-year-old men, who were seated in the back of the car, suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the van, a 59-year-old man, suffered serious injuries while his front seat passenger, a 60-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.

A witness said that Clarke had been driving “erratically” before the crash, weaving in and out of lanes with the occupants of his car looking distracted.

Nitrous oxide cannisters, also known as hippy crack, were found in the BMW and nothing was found to be wrong with any of the vehicles or road surface, with weather conditions said to be favourable for driving.

Clarke, who joined National League side Dagenham & Redbridge on loan from Norwich earlier this month, was jailed at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday, having pleaded guilty to three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was also disqualified from driving for 30 months.

PC Alex Thomas, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “Clarke drove incredibly stupidly that day and caused an unnecessary crash that left six people with injuries, including four of his friends. The outcome could have been much worse.

“I hope he has learnt a lesson by seeing the consequences of driving so dangerously.”

Clarke played 11 times for Peterborough United’s first team after coming through the youth ranks at Posh before he joined Norwich for an undisclosed fee in 2021. He spent time on loan at Walsall last season before joining the Daggers in September.
