Manchester City's quadruple dreams went up in smoke as they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle United.

Alexander Isak's goal was the difference on Wednesday evening, but Pep Guardiola was left less than impressed with the Magpies' style of play. And the Catalan boss has claimed Newcastle 'kicked' them out of the cup.

After initially congratulating the home team on the 1-0 win, Guardiola fumed: "I think Newcastle couldn’t accept our first half dominance, they increased the rhythm and aggression and kicking, and they were there, more aggressive. We struggled a little but that’s normal.

"Pep Guardiola the biggest sore loser in world football, sausage," one fan fumed. As a second responded: "Pep Guardiola aka the cheque book manager, is a big sore loser!

"Pep kicking off at the referees after being knocked out of a game they had nothing go against them in. What a weird guy, and guarantee there wont be the same outrage there would be if Erik ten Hag did the same," a third fumed.

And another added: "Seems like the best manager in the world certainly cared being knocked out of it last night on the back of winning a treble…"

City can take a silver lining from being dumped out of the cup, with the quarter-finals of the competition scheduled for the same week as the Club World Cup.

As reigning European champions, City will jet to the Middle East in December – and Guardiola might have been forced to play a team of kids further down the line, with the first team playing in Saudi Arabia.
