Patrick Bamford was labelled a cheat by a commentator on Wednesday night, after he appeared to dive in Leeds’ clash with QPR.

The England international suffered the agony of relegation last term with the Whites after Sam Allardyce was unable to rescue their season after coming in at the 11th hour.

However, Leeds have hardly been pulling up trees in the Championship, and sit sixth with four wins, two draws and two defeats as they look to bounce straight back up under Daniel Farke.

They did pick up an important three points on Wednesday night after Crysencio Summerville struck in the ninth minute, but the game was not without its dramatic moments at the climax.

With Bamford seeking to put a second on the board, he broke free and ran at Asmir Begovic, only for the Bosnian to lunge into a tackle and get himself sent off – but despite the striker dramatically hitting the deck, there was no contact.

Patrick Bamford was branded a ‘diving cheat’ by QPR commentators after appearing to go down easily

Asmir Begovic was sent off in added time in a decision that caused a great deal of debate

As such, QPR commentators were incensed at the England striker’s actions and wasted no time in making their real feelings known, shouting: ‘There’s no touch he’s a diving cheat!’

Seconds later as Bamford stood over the ball to take the free-kick in the 93rd minute which he had seemingly bought, the commentators continued their barrage: ‘Bamford the cheat will take the free-kick, left-footed from outside the box’

With VAR not in place in the English second-tier, Begovic was offered no reprieve by video officials.

This led to the amusing spectacle of centre forward Lyndon Dykes donning the gloves with all Gareth Ainsworth’s substitutes used up.

Unfortunately Leeds weren’t able to properly test Dykes in the few remaining minutes but could be happy with Bamford’s late injection of impetus as he builds up minutes following a hamstring injury.

For QPR it was a double blow after suffering yet another defeat at the start of the season; their sixth from 10 games.

Summerville’s early goal proved enough against a QPR side who offered next to nothing as if already resigned to a brutal relegation fight.
