Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has warned the rest of the Formula 1 grid that this weekend’s upcoming Qatar Grand Prix could go “incredibly wrong” as a result of the blistering hot temperatures in the region. Daytime temperatures could reach as high as 40 degrees Celcius, while the evening races could still be in the thirties.

The free practice and sprint shoot-out will take place during the day, as drivers will be subjected to extremely hot environments inside their cars. This heat will test their physical and mental fortitude while also impacting tyre strategies as teams battle to manage degradation.

Qatar hosting a sprint race ensures that drivers also have a smaller window for practice, putting them to the test. And Leclerc has warned his rivals that Ferrari have put in the work to be prepared to take advantage of any mistakes in the blistering desert heat.

“It’s definitely going to be very difficult because we’ve got extremely hot temperatures, where we normally take a bit of time to understand what’s the limit for the cooling, etc,” Leclerc warned.
