Ollie Watkins is reportedly ‘on the verge of signing a new five year contract’ at Aston Villa until 2028.<\/p>\n
The England striker’s existing deal runs until 2025 and if all goes to plan the announcement could be made soon, The Athletic\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n
Watkins has made a strong start to the season for Villa, who sit fifth in the Premier League\u00a0table, after scoring seven goals in 12 games.<\/p>\n
Despite not scoring in any of his first five matches, the 27-year-old has scored four in his last two, including a hat-trick on the weekend against Brighton.<\/p>\n
This comes after Gareth Southgate recently added Watkins to his England squad for the upcoming October international break.<\/p>\n

Watkins joined Jarrod Bowen in earning a call-up, but there was no such luck for Raheem Sterling or the in-form James Ward-Prowse.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old joined Villa from Brentford in 2020 for \u00a328million and has scored 50 goals in 127 appearances for the club.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Manager Unai Emery recently said he was confident Watkins will remain at the club before his England call-up.<\/p>\n
He told reporters: ‘Ollie shows his commitment with his work. He is very happy here, has improved and today is a consequence of how he works every day.\u2019<\/p>\n
