In-game audio of on-field officials and VAR teams will be released on a regular basis for the rest of the season after PGMOL and the Premier League committed to the move in an attempt to offer greater transparency for refereeing decisions.<\/p>\n
It has been a week of intense scrutiny for referees and\u00a0Chief Refereeing Officer of the PGMOL, Howard Webb, after Tottenham’s contentious 2-1 victory over Liverpool last Saturday.<\/p>\n
This included what PGMOL described as a ‘significant human error’ when VAR wrongly disallowed Luis Diaz’s goal, with\u00a0the <\/span>subsequent release of the VAR audio from the incident\u00a0only heightening how disastrous the mistake was.<\/span><\/p>\n And now, for the rest of the campaign, in-game audio will be broadcasted on regular occasions, with the objective to remain ‘open and transparent’ about how those in charge come to decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n It will also provide supporters with an insight into how the decision-making process works.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n PGMOL and the Premier League have committed to a regular release of in-game audio of on-field officials and VAR teams for the rest of 2023-24 after the error to disallow Luis Diaz’s goal<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Diaz’s goal was wrongly disallowed before the VAR audio from the incident was then released<\/p>\n Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n While officials’ comments will not be made instantly available during or after matches, the audio will feature on a regular TV show.<\/span><\/p>\n This will called ‘Match Officials: Mic’d Up’ and will air in both the UK and across the globe, with one episode having already taken place last month.<\/span><\/p>\n PGMOL chief Webb will be joined by Michael Owen to analyse and explain several major refereeing decisions from recent rounds of games.<\/span><\/p>\n The next episode of the show is on Tuesday October 10, and comes as part of Webb’s desire for greater transparency\u00a0and an improvement of attitudes towards VAR.<\/p>\n Along with the first episode of the show, he also appeared on Monday Night Football at the end of last season, where he provided a rare look as to how VAR works from an officials point of view.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Meanwhile, both Darren England, who was on VAR duty for Tottenham’s clash with Liverpool and his assistant Dan Cook, have been stood down from duty for this weekend’s round of games.<\/span><\/p>\n Their mistake on Diaz’s goal has\u00a0been the talk of the footballing world since Saturday, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp even calling for a replay of the clash.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The audio will be aired on a regular TV show called ‘Match Officials Mic’d Up’, where PGMOL chief Howard Webb will be joined by Michael Owen and the first episode aired last month\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Darren England – who was on VAR for the Diaz error – has been stood down for this weekend\u00a0<\/p>\n It’s All Kicking Off is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\nIT’S ALL KICKING OFF!\u00a0<\/h3>\n
