David Beckham has thrown his support behind under-pressure Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, with the legendary former England captain suggesting the takeover talk surrounding owners, the Glazers, and interested persons Sheikh Jassim, is causing unwanted distractions. The Glazers put Man Utd up for sale late last year but turned down offers from Sheikh Jassim and billionaire fan Sir Jim Ratcliffe before reports last month claimed that the Club were being taken off the market.

Things have been far from smooth on the pitch too, with the Red Devils leaving it late to beat Brentford 2-1 in Saturday’s Premier League action. The turnaround win halted what was heading toward three successive defeats for Ten Hag’s men, having lost 3-2 to Galatasaray in the Champions League following a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace.

“Well, let’s see. I think he’s a good coach,” Manchester United legend Beckham told Sky Sports. “It’s a difficult time at the moment but there’s a lot of noise around the club at the moment, so it can’t be easy for him. We all want that noise to go away and we all want a decision to be made for the club, for the fans, for the players, and for the manager as well, because we are one of if not the, biggest club in the world and we want stability and I think that’s the most important thing.”

The 48-year-old then dropped a hint that an ownership change is what the club needs and hinted that it could be Sheikh Jassim who is the man to take the Red Devils “back to where it belongs”. Beckham added: “We all have our favorites of who we think we feel that need to run the Club, look after the Club, and take the Club back to where it belongs. But in our eyes, in the fans’ eyes, we’re number one, and we want to be back at the top. I believe I know the right people to do that, so. [Sheikh Jassim?] Ah, we’ll see.”

Beckham knows a thing or two about soccer Club ownership, as he’s part of a team running Inter Miami, who acquired three legends of the sport in Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. The ex-Barcelona trio helped the MLS franchise win its first trophy with a Leagues Cup victory in the summer. They also helped Miami reach the US Open Cup Final but the team lost to Houston Dynamo.

Messi and Co are also hunting down a late playoff spot despite Miami spending most of its Eastern Conference campaign at the bottom of the table. Miami needs to recover five points from its remaining three games and hope that those also in contention slip up.

The Argentine has 11 goals and five assists in 12 games since his move and up next is top-of-the-table Cincinnati on Saturday night.
