Chelsea could cash in on Arsenal’s current goalkeeping situation by making a January move for Aaron Ramsdale.

The England stopper has been consigned to the bench by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta since being drooped for Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United last month, with summer signing David Raya being installed as the club’s number one.

Despite Arteta claiming he would rotate his two goalies, Raya has started all six Premier League games since coming into replace Ramsdale.

Raya has conceded six goals in that period and displayed some nervy performances, but it looks he’s like staying put as Arteta’s first choice.

The situation could see Ramsdale look elsewhere for first-team football, and according to CBS sports journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea could swoop for the 25-year-old in January.

The Blues recruited Robert Sanchez from Brighton in the summer, but the Spaniard has struggled since arriving at Stamford Bridge, culminating in his error for Declan Rice’s goal in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Saturday.

Sanchez’s form could prompt Chelsea into making a move for Ramsdale, but would have to convince the Gunners to let the goalkeeper go, and sign for a rival London club.

There would also be a question mark over whether Ramsdale would be willing to move to west London, especially given Chelsea’s lack of Champions League football.

Ramsdale will want first-team football to keep his England place ahead of next summer’s Euros

Given Raya’s recent wobbles, the England keeper will believe he could force is way back into Arteta’s plans, but would also be keen to get as much first-team football as he can ahead of next summer’s European Championships.

He was part of Gareth Southgate’s last Three Lions squad, but will face competition from Sam Johnstone and Nick Pope in making the final three spots for Germany, behind current number one Jordan Pickford.

Ramsdale’s set to be on the bench once again tonight as Arsenal travel to Spain to face Sevilla in Champions League Group B.

The Gunners will be looking to bounce back in the group, following their defeat to Lens before the international break.
