Glenn Maxwell has made history in India after hitting fastest World Cup hundred ever to put Australia\u00a0in control of their match with the Netherlands.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Amid a mini collapse of four wickets for just 56 runs, Maxwell came to the crease and blasted 101 off just 41 balls in a staggering innings that has seen his name etched in the history books.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Maxwell was, at one point, on 35 runs off 21 balls, before putting his foot on the gas to hit 66 off the following 19 balls.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He reached three figures with a huge uppercut six, which rocketed into the stands behind square leg.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The short-format specialist celebrated his incredible knock by pretending to cradle a baby, having welcomed his newborn son Logan recently.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Maxwell lost his wicket shortly after reaching the milestone. He went for another big six, but failed to time his shot well.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sybrand Engelbrecht caught him at long on after waiting under the ball for a lengthy period.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The previous record was set by Aiden Markram earlier in the tournament, when he hit a 49-ball century against Sri Lanka, but Maxwell’s effort will take some beating now.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘That is outrageous,’ Shane Watson said on commentary.<\/p>\n
‘A complete and utter barrage.’<\/p>\n
Another record was broken during Australia’s innings, with Dutch star Bas de Leede conceding the most runs by a bowler at the World Cup.<\/p>\n
His 115 runs shipped were the highest conceded since South Africa’s Mark Lewis gave away 113 against Australia at the 2006 tournament.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
