The fiancee of the tragic ice hockey star Adam Johnson has paid tribute to the 29-year-old, who was killed in a freak accident on the ice.<\/p>\n
The Nottingham Panthers forward tragically lost his life after an ice skate blade cut his throat during a match in Sheffield. He tried to skate to the sidelines for help but quickly collapsed soon after. <\/p>\n
Despite the best efforts of those administering treatment on the ice, Johnson passed away soon after he was sent to Sheffield's Northern General hospital. Soon after his death was confirmed by his team the Nottingham Panthers, his heartbroken fiancee, Ryan Wolfe has paid tribute to the American. <\/p>\n

She took to social media and said, "My sweet, sweet angel. I'll miss you forever and love you always." It's understood the couple become engaged over the summer and lived with each other in England. <\/p>\n
Other reports from the Sun also understand Ryan ran onto the ice and began to pray when they were administering emergency treatment for him on the ice. His team-mates and opposition players had also formed a protective ring around him at Sheffield's Utilita Arena to give him some privacy. <\/p>\n

Fans were also asked to leave the arena when the collision took place. Tributes for Johnson have come pouring out ever since he passed away at the age of 29. <\/p>\n
His former team-mate Riley Tufte, who played alongside him during their time together at the University of Maryland, told the Athletic: "Just horrifying and tragic and so, so sad. I can\u2019t tell you how loved this guy was and just how proud he was to play at UMD (University of Maryland)."<\/p>\n

His mother Kari also wrote "I lost half of my heart today. Love you always." There was also a minute's silence at the Championship football match between Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United for Johnson.<\/p>\n
As well as playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the United States, he also forged an ice hockey career in Sweden and Germany, before moving to Nottingham in August.<\/p>\n
