Tottenham will need to pay more than £43million to bring Inter Milan ace Hakan Calhanoglu to the club next summer, according to reports. The north Londoners have enjoyed an impressive start to the new Premier League campaign and currently sit top of the table after winning eight of their opening 10 matches.

Much of their recent success has been down to the signing of James Maddison, who has been exceptional in midfield since joining from Leicester City over the summer. It seems as though Ange Postecoglou is eager to add another top-class playmaker to his ranks at the end of the campaign, with Calhanoglou having reportedly been lined up as the club’s main target.

Tottenham will have a great chance of signing the Turkish midfielder next summer if two key conditions are met, according to InterLive. It is said that Spurs will need to qualify for the Champions League in order to stand any chance of landing Calhanoglu, who has already scored four goals in 12 games for Inter this season.

Any potential move will also hinge on the future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who was linked with an exit over the summer but ultimately ended up staying in north London. If the Dane leaves and Spurs book their place in the Champions League next season, they could reportedly ‘give serious thought’ to signing Calhanoglu at the end of the current campaign.

JUST IN: Man Utd misery piled on by Man City boss Pep Guardiola with subtle Glazers jibe

He remains under contract at the San Siro until the summer of 2027 and it is said that Tottenham will need to pay at least £43.6m in order to secure his services. It remains to be seen if such a move will end up coming to fruition next summer, with plenty of variables needing to fall into place between now and then.

Spurs will be hoping for Calhanoglu to have a similar impact to Maddison if he eventually joins their squad, with the latter having firmly established himself as one of the Premier League’s best attacking midfielders. He has already registered five assists so far this season and was rewarded for his efforts with the division’s Player of the Month award in August.
