Tiger Woods’ much-anticipated return to competitive golf appears to be no sooner to materialising after the all-time great was spotted hobbling around a course he designed himself in Mexico on Tuesday.

The 15-time major winner was seen inspecting the El Cardonal course ahead of the World Wide Technology Championship PGA Tour event that gets underway on Thursday.

A video showing Woods at the links-style course was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the PGA Tour itself. The 47-year-old is captured taking a ride in a golf buggy before making his way into a car with a drink in hand.

But it is his mobility that has become the talking point with Woods appearing to still be limping and moving stiffly as he made his way into the back of the waiting vehicle.

The three-time Open Championship winner hasn’t competed on the world golf circuit since he was forced to withdraw from the third round of The Masters at Augusta National in April.

Woods suffered a plantar fasciitis injury and had to undergo further ankle surgery that has kept him out of action ever since.

A statement released on his own Twitter account in April said that he had undergone a fusion of the subtalar joint “to address his post-traumatic arthritis from his previous talus fracture”. The subtalar joint is located just below the ankle joint, between the talus bone and heel bone.

Fans soon picked up on his mobility issues after seeing the new video on X. @theaussiegolfer wrote: “That’s a big limp still,” while @harrizee and two other X users all added: “Still limping.”

Woods has left the door opening for a return to the fairways after keeping one place open at his own tournament, the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, which gets underway on November 30.
