Chelsea could be in danger of losing another former academy star following the summer exit of Mason Mount. Conor Gallagher’s future remains uncertain and reports claim he could leave as talks over a new contract are not advanced.

Chelsea allowed Mount to leave to join Manchester United in July. The Blues brought in up to £60million for the midfielder after failing to come to terms on a new contract.

Mount’s deal was set to expire in 2024 and Gallagher could be in a similar position at the end of this season. His contract currently runs until 2025, so he could enter the final 12 months of his deal at Stamford Bridge.

Gallagher has become an immediate favourite of Mauricio Pochettino, starting all 10 of Chelsea’s Premier League matches so far this season. But his long-term future remains uncertain.

GiveMeSport claims that Gallagher could still leave Chelsea in an upcoming transfer window. The 23-year-old wants to stay and fight for his place and earn a new contract.

But it is reported that an agreement is not close at all. Tottenham were interested in Gallagher late in the summer but Chelsea’s asking price of up to £50m put off the London rivals.

Pochettino’s admiration of Gallagher is shown in the fact he has captained the side on several occasions in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell. He has notched two assists in the league and is one of just three outfielders to have started every top-flight match for the Blues this season.

Gallagher featured 35 times in the league last term in a turbulent campaign in west London. Pochettino moved on a large number of high-profile players but Gallagher stayed put despite links with a move elsewhere.
