Neville called the hype surrounding Messi – who just won his eighth Ballon d’Or – ‘incredible’

Neville went 31-41-11 as Miami’s coach, though the Herons had lost 10 of 15 league matches this season at the time of his dismissal.

After his departure, Miami announced the arrivals of Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who led the club to a Leagues Cup title.

However, the club failed to qualify for MLS’ postseason afterwards.

Speaking on ‘Offside with Taylor Twellman this week,’ Neville said that he’d been traveling around the United States for the past few months, and called the hype surrounding Messi ‘incredible.’

‘Every plane that I went on, there was a Messi shirt… everywhere you go there’s Messi shirts. And just seeing, you know, the [Inter Miami] owners that I worked for at the Ballon d’Or [ceremony] in the front row, presenting the greatest player in the world… and I just thought, we don’t know how lucky we are.

‘And then you think to yourself, next season’s gonna be even bigger. I do feel next season will be bigger, because I feel as if next season the clubs coming up against Inter Miami will probably have the motivation that Charlotte did in that last game … and it’ll be even harder, and we’ll see even more greatness.’
