Australian is such a colourful language.

Daniel Ricciardo showed the full extent of his vocabulary after failing to net AlphaTauri any points during the sprint race at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. That's despite tailing Ferrari's Carlos Sainz for much of a closely contested race, which ended with him launching into a tirade of expletives in frustration with his performance.

The former Red Bull ace impressed in Mexico last weekend when he managed to bag a seventh-place finish, beating team-mate Yuki Tsunoda's season's best in only his fourth AlphaTauri outing this year. And with high expectations of himself, the Perth native was miffed not to back that performance up with more points (or point) in the Sao Paulo sprint.

"F**k. F**k. F**k. F**k. Sorry guys," Ricciardo could be heard saying to his team over the radio at the end of the sprint session. "Just that f***ing DRS in Turn 2. You pass in [Turn] 1 and then you just get f***ed. It is impossible. Anyway, I'll shut up."

The outburst yielded a mixed reaction among Formula 1 fans, though most were generally unimpressed with the performance. It was suggested by one fan that Liam Lawson – Ricciardo's countryman who replaced him for five races earlier this season – 'would have been fighting for top five in that car'.

Another critic commented that Ricciardo "should be ashamed" for his swear session. And a third joked: "How immature and aggressive from Yuki grow up. . .oh wait."

The 35-year-old has shown shades of his former self since regaining a starting drive in F1 – and that includes his choice of language.

But while many fans of the sport have lapped up his loveable ways for years, not everyone supported his explicit turn in Brazil. However, he'll quickly turn them back in his favour with a productive display in Sunday's Grand Prix.
