Luis Diaz paid tribute to his kidnapped father after an emotional late goal secured Liverpool a point against Luton Town.

The 26-year-old Colombia international had chosen to step back into first-team action earlier this week despite his dad Luis Manuel Diaz yet to be returned following an abduction by left-wing rebel group ELN.

Manager Jurgen Klopp called his team a safe space for Diaz who would came off the bench with just seven minutes of normal time remaining following an opening goal from former Manchester United prospect Tahith Chong.

Diaz rose highest to nod home over Luton's Issa Kabore following Harvey Elliott's cross before revealing a tribute on his shirt.

It read: "Libertad para Papa." Which means: "Freedom for my father."

He was joined by team-mates and clapped by fans around the stadium after the goal despite breaking the hearts of home supporters.

Klopp insisted before the game that negotiations are positive after ELN promised to realise his father, but haven't yet done so.

Klopp told Sky Sports before the match: "It's still very, pretty emotional but Luis decided three days ago that he wanted to train again. I said it before that the training ground and football pitch is the safe place for the boys.

"There he can behave normal and forget for a few minutes a least what is going on but all the signs he gets I understand are very positive.
