Paul Merson for the second week in a row has exclaimed that he would be shocked if Tottenham beat their Premier League opponents.<\/p>\n
Ange Postecoglou’s side face Wolves\u00a0on Saturday off the back of their first league defeat of the season, with a 4-1 loss to Chelsea on Monday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Merson earlier this week hit back at ‘clueless critics’ who mocked him for suggesting Chelsea would beat Spurs on Mauricio Pochettino’s return to the club.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The former Arsenal and England midfielder has now explained why he feels that Wolves will hand Tottenham their second straight defeat – predicting a 2-1 victory for Gary O’Neil’s side.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He told Sportskeeda: ‘I\u2019ll be shocked if Tottenham, with their injuries and suspensions, beat Wolves on Saturday. I was looking at Spurs\u2019 situation and they have some bad injuries.<\/p>\n

\u2018Micky van de Ven is out and they\u2019ve got Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie who are set to miss a couple of weeks due to suspension.\u00a0James Maddison is going to be out too and Richarlison is set to undergo surgery.<\/p>\n
\u2018Ange Postecoglou will be fielding a makeshift backline and they are not going to be the same side that got off to a flying start to the season due to their injuries.’<\/p>\n
Van de Ven went off against Chelsea clutching his hamstring, with the Dutchman expected to face an extended spell on the sidelines – though he reportedly won’t need surgery.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Maddison also limped off against Chelsea, while Richarlison has undergone surgery on a pelvic injury.<\/p>\n
Despite Spurs’ superb form heading into the clash against Chelsea, Merson \u2014 a fan of the Stamford Bridge club \u2014 admitted a Tottenham victory would ‘shock’ him.<\/p>\n
‘I’m very confident for Chelsea on Monday night,’ Merson said on Sky Sports. ‘I’ll be shocked if they lose.’<\/p>\n

Several fans swiftly mocked the former England star on social media, with one Tottenham supporter writing on X, formerly known as Twitter: ‘When we beat Chelsea, Paul Merson needs to retire as a pundit.’<\/p>\n
Biting back with an amusing response after Chelsea’s win, Merson replied: ‘You will have to put up with me 4-1 more year at least. COYB.’<\/p>\n
He also said in a separate post: ‘All them people that called me clueless, hope your off to bed. COYB.’<\/p>\n
