A rogue reporter got a little too handsy with Raheem Sterling following Sunday's eight-goal bonanza at Stamford Bridge.

The England international played the full 90 minutes and got on the score sheet as Chelsea hit back from behind to draw 4-4 against old club Manchester City. And he wasn't the only ex-City star to do damage for the Blues after Cole Palmer stepped up to convert a calm penalty in the 95th minute.

And what was Sterling's reward for his part in arguably the best result of Chelsea's campaign to date? Narrowly missing out on a poke in the eye as he conducted his post-match press duties.

In the Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davidson's defence, they were attempting to remove what was likely a blade of grass from Sterling's eye when things turned awkward. After all, the last thing one expects from a member of the media is to see their digits descending anywhere near one's peeper – even if the winger had been fusing with it throughout the interview.

However, Sterling was agile enough to avoid the unwanted aid as he told Davidson he'd 'get more dirt in it'. And the reporter quickly retreated before the pair went their separate ways.

And fans couldn't believe what they'd witnessed live on air as one incredulous viewer wrote: "The interviewer tried to take grass out of Sterling's eye live on Sky. Bruv." Another spectator wrote they were 'flabbergasted' by the journalist's short-lived offer to try clear Sterling's optics.

"Interviewer thought he was gonna get one of those wholesome moments by helping Sterling get something out of his eye and it just p****d Sterling off," laughed a third. It's safe to say the reporter in question may think twice before overstepping any potential boundaries in the future.

While it may well have been a good-willed gestured attempting to help a player in need, he'll now look back on his trip to Stamford Bridge for something other than the eight-goal blockbuster. And there's nothing like a considerable moment of cringe to spoil what should have been nothing but happy memories.
