Chelsea fans think Mateo Kovacic celebrated Cole Palmer's last-minute equaliser during their 4-4 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.

The Croatian midfielder, who joined City from Chelsea over the summer, came on as a second half substitute and played a part Rodri's late goal which looked as if it had won the game for the visitors. But the Blues came roaring back and won a 95th-minute penalty, which was confidently dispatched by ex-City star Palmer.

Fan footage of the equaliser appeared to show Kovacic turning back towards the centre circle and subtly pumping his first after the ball rippled the net, with Blues supporters dubbing him "agent Kovacic".

"No way Kovacic actually celebrated the Cole Palmer goal," one fan wrote. "Kovacic celebrated Palmer's goal. Proper Chels," said another. A third added: "Oh my God bring him home."

Others, however, weren't convinced he was celebrating. One said: "He absolutely isn't celebrating the goal. That would just be weird." Another agreed, writing: "Chelsea fans acting like Kovacic is still your boy need to grow up. Clutching at straws thinking that's a celebration. He literally walks off in a huff."

Kovacic spent five years at Stamford Bridge, initially joining on loan from Real Madrid in 2018 before making the move permanent a year later. He was part of Chelsea team which beat City in the Champions League final in 2021, and also won the Europa League, the Club World Cup and the Super Cup with the west London team.

City parted with £25million to nab in the summer, and although the 29-year-old has got plenty of game-time this season, he's struggled to nail down a starting spot thus far. Previously, he played for Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Dinamo Zagreb.

Sunday's epic encounter will rightly go down as one of the most entertaining fixtures in Premier League history. The Blues came from behind three times to secure a richly-deserved point following another evening of chaos and controversy, less than a week on from their bonkers 4-1 win over Tottenham.

Erling Haaland, Manuel Akanji and Rodri scored the visitors while Thiago Silva, Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson and Palmer netted for the hosts as the spoils were shared on an unforgettable night under the lights at Stamford Bridge.
