The American tennis great has said that he &#8220;1000% fully disagrees&#8221; with\u00a0Tsitsipas&#8217; &#8220;ridiculous&#8221;\u00a0comments and has launched a strong defence of the major tennis tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>Tsitsipas&#8217; remarks came ahead of the season-ending ATP Finals taking place in Turin. The Greek was one of eight players who had qualified for the tournament following a successful season that saw him win the ATP 250 Los Cabos Open and reach the Australian Open final &#8211; where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic.<\/p>\n<p>Despite impressing on one of tennis&#8217; biggest stages, the 25-year-old believes that the ATP Finals hold more weight than wins at Wimbledon, the French Open, the US Open and the Australian Open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a whole celebration,&#8221; he said via\u00a0the official ATP website.\u00a0&#8220;The ATP Finals is a commemoration and celebration of the best of the best in our sport.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/72\/590x\/secondary\/5068533.jpg?r=1700083632933\"><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means a lot,&#8221; he added. &#8220;I would consider it probably a bigger thing than a &#8216;Slam, honestly. It has big prestige and it\u2019s a very valuable asset if you\u2019re able to conquer and win it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taking umbrage with his claims, Roddick was quick to fire back. The Greek\u00a0retired three games into his match against Holger Rune due to a back injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy opinion is that, if your elbow is beat up, if your back is beat up and you\u2019re down a match already, you\u2019ve got to start thinking about January,&#8221; Roddick went on to add.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListen, he made the finals in Australia last year, he\u2019s always played well down there. So if I\u2019m in his team I\u2019m going, \u2018Listen is the juice worth the squeeze for this tournament especially as we look forward to next year.\u2019 I probably would\u2019ve leaned towards no, we\u2019ve got to make sure we\u2019re healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following\u00a0Tsitsipas&#8217; withdrawal from the match after\u00a0just 17 minutes, the\u00a0World No. 6 was booed by the crowd.
