Manchester United's Old Trafford light show left fans feeling concerned in regards to their leaky roof – with some even assuming it was a malfunction.

The biggest football stadium in the country hosted the WSL meeting between United Women vs Manchester City Women on Sunday evening (November 19) with the lights across the top of the stands used to mimic a nightclub as the players took to the pitch.

Rival fans couldn't help but laugh at the lack of quality in the display, with home supporters thinking that the rain had caused an error. One fan said: "I’m stunned that our stadium can do that."

A second supporter joked: "The lights are actually faulty they are not meant to do this." A third replied: "They wanna be careful. They can't fix a leaky roof. No chance they're replacing the bulbs as well."

A fourth added: "Surprised the electrics didn't short circuit." A fifth said: "That’s not a light show! The leaks in the roof have got in to the electrics."

A sixth hit back by saying: "I seriously don't see the problem with this people just like to moan about everything." As a rival posted with a laughing face emoji: "This is Old Trafford’s light show."

The game went from good to bad for the hosts as Gareth Taylor's visitors came from a goal down after Katie Zelem's penalty to lead 3-1 thanks to Jill Roord, Lauren Hemp and Khadija Shaw.

City finished the game with 10 players on the pitch after Laia Aleixandri was dismissed with 20 minutes remaining, but United failed to capitalise.

The three points puts the blue side of Manchester within six points of leaders Chelsea, with United a point further behind after their first defeat of the season.

Gary Neville has been the most vocal critic in regards to a lack of investment in the stadium, saying across his time on Sky Sports that the home of United has fallen a long way behind their Premier League rivals.

He recently said on the Diary of a CEO podcast: "I used to laugh when I went to Anfield and compared it to Old Trafford. I'd always think: 'They can never catch up, they're too far behind'.

"They're building that second stand now behind the goal where the away fans sit. The main stand now is towering up. Anfield will be a more modern ground than Manchester United and Old Trafford in 12 months. That is unforgivable."
