Mercedes have confirmed that Frederik Vesti will replace Lewis Hamilton in the first practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The decision follows on from a rule introduced last year which dictates that each team must\u00a0run a rookie in two practice sessions across the season.<\/p>\n
With that in mind, a number of youngsters are set to feature on the track in Abu Dhabi, given that it is the season finale.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Vesti, 21,\u00a0previously participated in FP1 in Mexico last month in place of Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate, George Russell.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the Mercedes website, Vesti said:\u00a0‘Driving in FP1 in Abu Dhabi is another step in my career. Getting my first experience of an official session on an F1 weekend in Mexico was a big moment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hamilton will sit out the practice session following a rule introduction that teams must run rookies in\u00a0in two practice sessions across the season<\/p>\n
‘I learnt so much, and it was great being able to support the team and work with Lewis and George. I’m looking forward to building on that experience at Yas Marina.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘It’s a track I know well and that will no doubt make it easier to get up to speed in the one hour of practice.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘I’m extremely excited to get back behind-the-wheel of the W14 for FP1 and then the post-season test. Once again, I want to say a big thank you to the team for giving me this opportunity.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 21-year-old has been featuring for Prema Racing this season in Formula 2 and currently sits second in the standings following a strong year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Danish driver\u00a0has taken five victories and three other podium finishes so far this season, ahead of the final round of 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Heading into the final event of the F1 season, there is still a lot up for grabs for Mercedes, despite the title being won by Red Bull long ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Currently, there are only four points separating Mercedes and Ferrari in the battle for P2 in the constructors\u2019 standings.<\/p>\n
Hamilton and Russell currently sit third and eighth respectively in the drivers’ standings.\u00a0<\/p>\n
