Novak Djokovic stole the show by hitting out at British fans in the aftermath of Serbia’s 2-0 victory over Great Britain at the Davis Cup. Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie both lost their singles matches to send Britain crashing out of the tournament, with Serbia set to face Italy in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Draper was up first but was edged out by Miomir Kecmanovic, who clinched two tiebreaks to register a 7-6 7-6 triumph over his British rival. It meant that any hopes of reaching the semi-finals rested on Norrie’s shoulders but the 28-year-old was comfortably beaten 6-4 6-4 by Djokovic to seal victory for tournament favourites Serbia.

A number of rowdy British fans were heard banging drums and chanting while Djokovic was giving his post-match interview, prompting the Serb to hit back with a brutal put-down as he said: “Learn how to respect players, how to behave yourselves, learn how to respect people, you shut up, you be quiet.”

Djokovic explains lashing out at British fans

Novak Djokovic has accused British fans of being ‘disrespectful’ by banging drums and chanting as he gave his post-match interview after Serbia’s victory last night.

He said: “That’s disrespect but that’s something you have to be prepared for in a Davis Cup.

“It’s normal that sometimes fans step over the line. In the heat of the moment sometimes you react too and you show that you don’t allow this kind of behaviour.

“I mean, they can do whatever they want but I’m going to respond to that. They were trying to annoy me the entire match, so yeah, we had a little bit of a chat in the end.”
