{"id":297362,"date":"2023-11-24T13:25:19","date_gmt":"2023-11-24T13:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportslifetale.com\/?p=297362"},"modified":"2023-11-24T13:25:19","modified_gmt":"2023-11-24T13:25:19","slug":"tottenham-legend-defoe-takes-part-in-arsenal-youth-coaching-session","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportslifetale.com\/soccer\/tottenham-legend-defoe-takes-part-in-arsenal-youth-coaching-session\/","title":{"rendered":"Tottenham legend Defoe takes part in Arsenal youth coaching session"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham legend Jermain Defoe takes part in coaching session at Arsenal&#8217;s academy HQ and gives advice to young Gunners&#8230; as the former striker continues bid to become a coach<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Spurs icon Defoe continued his bid to become a coach at Arsenal&#8217;s youth centre\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The ex-striker &#8211; an U18s coach at Tottenham &#8211; helped conduct a training session<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Inside Postecoglou&#8217;s Tottenham: IAKO looks at culture and philosophy changes\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tottenham icon Jermain Defoe took his latest steps towards a career in coaching last night\u2026 at Arsenal\u2019s famed Hale End training base.<\/p>\n<p>Defoe is recognised as one of Spurs\u2019 greatest ever strikers and is revered among their fanbase after scoring 143 goals for the club &#8211; placing him seventh in Tottenham\u2019s all-time leading scorers list.<\/p>\n<p>The former England international is currently a Tottenham academy coach and ambassador but Mail Sport can reveal Defoe entered enemy territory on Thursday evening as he continued his own development at Arsenal\u2019s academy HQ.<\/p>\n<p>It is understood Defoe was part of the coaching team for an Under-14s session at the Gunners\u2019 junior facility in east London on Thursday evening, as he provided his expert knowledge to the young prospects at Arsenal\u2019s junior base.<\/p>\n<p>But Tottenham fans needn\u2019t worry about the prospect of Defoe defecting to the red half of north London any time soon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/24\/12\/78197237-0-image-a-2_1700830005165.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Tottenham legend Jermain Defoe entered enemy territory this week as he took part in a coaching session at Arsenal&#8217;s academy HQ<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/24\/12\/78197257-0-image-m-5_1700830030924.jpg\" height=\"716\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The ex-striker &#8211; who coaches Spurs&#8217; Under-18s &#8211; enjoyed many fierce clashes against Arsenal<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>Defoe, along with a host of other coaches and ex-professionals, was attending an FA course.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The governing body have held similar sessions at Burnley and Brighton in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless onlookers at Hale End were taken aback by the 41-year-old\u2019s presence given his rich Spurs connections.<\/p>\n<p>Defoe announced his retirement in March 2022 following a spell with Sunderland &#8211; finishing with a career total of 324 goals.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/24\/12\/78197297-0-image-a-4_1700830019190.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>It comes as the FA confirmed they were looking into Defoe&#8217;s transfer from Spurs to Portsmouth in 2008<\/p>\n<p>Spurs immediately brought Defoe back to the club, opening the door to their former idol to complete his badges as he worked towards a career in coaching.
