Dominik Szoboszlai and Erling Haaland will be reunited on the pitch on Saturday as rivals when Liverpool face off against Manchester City and it’s clear from an old interview that the pair don’t always see eye-to-eye. Both players have spoken highly of one another in the past having built up a strong friendship during their time together at Red Bull Salzburg.

They spent just one year playing together in the Austrian Bundesliga before Haaland made his move to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020. But the two football superstars, both 23 years of age, have maintained a close relationship ever since.

Szosboszlai soon followed Haaland to the Bundesliga and eventually made the transition to the Premier League with Liverpool this past summer. The Hungary international lives just two doors down from his close friend, but he’ll have to put his friendship to one side when they finally go toe-to-toe in a blockbuster clash between Liverpool and City on Saturday.

That friendship was none more so evident than a joint interview they both did while playing for Salzburg in 2019. The Austrian team held a light-hearted Q&A session with the pair going back-to-back in a quiz called ‘match me if you can’.

The aim of the game was to see how well the two knew each other as they had to try and both agree on answers without seeing what the other person had picked first. But they didn’t see eye-to-ear on a few of the tougher questions and jokingly argued about who trained harder out of the two.

When asked who trains harder, both players chose themselves with Szosboszlai turning around and asking quizzically “you?” before Haaland confidently stated “yes”. Szosboszlai responded saying “no chance” before Haaland smiled and said: “You train harder than me? Okay, we will not win. 100 per cent.”
