Martin Brundle navigated through a tense encounter with a man acting as security during his grid walk segment ahead of Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Sky Sports F1 broadcaster was completing his final grid walk of the 2023 season when he spotted close friend and three-time world champion Sir Jackie Stewart at the front end of the melee.

However, as he tried to squeeze his way through the chaos down by the barriers, Brundle was blocked by a man who appeared to be a security guard, or at least was serving as one.

The 64-year-old attempted to make his way past along with the Sky Sports camera crew, insisting to the man that he could make it through a gap between the barrier and a camera operator.

At first it appeared as though the man was simply not keen to move, although it quickly became apparent that he was attempting to block the legendary broadcaster from entering the next segment of the grid.

“This guy sorta keeps getting hold of me,” Brundle said in frustration. “You have to let go, my friend.” This provoked a reaction from his antagonist who said: “I’m not going, I’m just blocking.”

Brundle, however, wasn’t going to give up easily. “You have to let go,” he continued, “Because we’ve got a job to do.” With that comment, he managed to finally break through.
