George Russell made his feelings perfectly clear about Max Verstappen’s motivation behind staying in Formula 1 for the foreseeable future after mocking the Red Bull star with a cheeky gesture. The Briton finished on the podium behind Charles Leclerc and race winner Verstappen at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and the Mercedes driver poked fun at his friendly rival after the race on Sunday.

The 25-year-old scored only his second podium finish of the season to help the Silver Arrows clinch second in the Constructors’ Championship ahead of Ferrari, despite the fact he was outscored by Leclerc.

And his impressive drive around the Yas Marina Circuit appeared to put Russell in good spirits as he joked around his fellow driver Verstappen after the race.

The three-time world champion has become accustomed to winning in the RB19 this season, clinching his 19th victory from 22 races as the curtain closed on the 2023 season, and it has led some to question whether he can stay motivated enough to remain in F1 for years to come.

As Verstappen was quizzed about the topic of his future and whether he will stay in F1 for the long-term, Russell interjected on his behalf with a cheeky gesture – suggesting the financial benefits will keep the 26-year-old in the sport.
