Norwich City striker Hwang Ui-jo has been banished indefinitely from South Korea’s national team following an allegation he illegally filmed a sexual encounter with an ex-girlfriend.

Hwang, who denies the allegation against him, is not being considered for selection by his national team pending a police inquiry into the claim.

The suspension comes just seven weeks before the start of the Asian Cup, but the Korea Football Association (KFA) feel it is not appropriate to select him amid a live investigation.

‘We have decided not to select Hwang Ui-jo for the national team until a clear conclusion is reached on the facts,’ a statement from the KFA’s ethics committee read.

Hwang, 31, is still eligible to play for Norwich and he scored for the Canaries in their 3-2 loss to Watford on Tuesday.

‘Considering the fact that the player is being investigated as a suspect, it is difficult for him to carry out normal national team activities,’ Lee said.

‘Football fans have high expectations for the national team, (so) we have deemed it inappropriate to select Hwang Ui-jo for the national team.’
