Nick Kyrgios has taken to Instagram to tease an upcoming interview with Piers Morgan seven years after telling the controversial presenter to ‘eat a d***’ in a social media row. The historic exchange took place after Kyrgios was beaten by Andy Murray at Wimbledon back in 2016, with the Aussie imploding as he fell to a humiliating straight-sets defeat.

Morgan reacted in his usual outspoken manner at the time, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “Never seen an Australian sulk like Nick Kyrgios. Normally ferocious proud competitors. Embarrassing to watch. Great job Andy Murray. As for you Nick Kyrgios, put your toys back in your pram and go home.”

Kyrgios clapped back after the match with a simple reply, which read: “EAD.” The use of the acronym, which stands for ‘eat a d***’, will soon be discussed in a wide-ranging interview on TalkTV that will see Kyrgios go head-to-head with Morgan for the very first time.

The one-time Wimbledon finalist uploaded a short teaser to Instagram on Wednesday, in which the pair were discussing their fiery exchange on social media seven years ago. Kyrgios was heard doubling down on his crude reply, saying: “Sometimes you are a bit of a d***, but I can be a d***** on the tennis court. I think we’re very alike!”

Kyrgios was also grilled about the time he spent most of a Wimbledon press conference tucking into a box of sushi while answering questions from reporters. When asked how he would react if Morgan did the same during his interview, the 28-year-old replied: “If I was talking to Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic, I’d be like ‘yeah, 100 per cent’, but with Piers Morgan it’s a problem.”

A more serious clip from the upcoming interview saw Kyrgios discussing his mother allegedly being held at gunpoint earlier this year in what was a particularly tough time for him. The assailant was also accused of stealing a car, with Kyrgios suffering an injury to his foot amid the chaos which saw the tennis star attempting to track down the alleged thief.
