Harry Redknapp is returning to football to coach Britain’s worst team.

The former Spurs, West Ham, Bournemouth, Southampton, QPR and Portsmouth manager agreed to take on 100-year-old Cwm Albion after the Welsh minnows lost all 22 of their matches last season with a staggering goal difference of -191. Star midfielder John Rees is 73, goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald had not kept a clean sheet for 10 years and winger Shane Prior admits he has got `legs like Bambi’.

The strugglers put out a nationwide plea to help improve results in the Swansea Seniors League and veteran Harry, who retired six years ago, agreed to step in. His imminent arrival has already triggered a change in fortunes – with the club actually winning a match.

Harry, 76, said: “The team’s 191-goal difference certainly caught my eye. ”But after meeting the lads you can’t doubt their determination. They’re a real close unit and their hard work is already starting to pay off with the lads securing their first win in three years in their latest match – 4-3 against Tennant Colts. Fantastic result.

”With the right training and guidance, I’m hopeful that these victories will continue throughout the season.”
Manager Dan Gill said: ”Having Harry on board for the season is the biggest thing to have happened to our club since I joined when I was 16-years-old.

”We couldn’t have found a better team in Cwm Albion. It’s clear how passionate they are about the game and their community. We really can’t wait to get behind them and hopefully with our and Harry’s support we will see improvements both on and off the pitch.”

The club’s progress under Harry will be charted in a series of YouTube documentaries narrated by former England women’s star Jill Scott.
