Jermaine Jenas insists he will not pretend to be an expert when he becomes the new Formula E host next year.

The all-electric race series announced on Thursday that it will have every race shown on TNT Sports from next season, in a move that sport chiefs hope will see it reach new audiences.

The former England and Tottenham footballer has been chosen to lead the coverage of the new FE season alongside Radzi Chinyanganya and Nicki Shields.

Motorsport legends such as David Coulthard and Dario Franchitti will be among the talent offering expert opinion on the action.

"I am not going to sit here and try and convince people that I am any kind of expert, but that is why we have a great team around us," Jenas told Daily Star Sport.

"You'll find with a lot of ex-athletes, their interest around sport is quite vast. If you were to ask me what sports I was into, I have always been into golf, Formula One, tennis. A lot of us watch a lot of sports, so Formula E was something that, for an F1 fan, was creeping up and was one of the things that you liked to have a look at.

"Coming from a footballing background, knowing people will say 'what is he doing presenting Formula E' but that is part of the challenge for me and I look forward to it.

"Two days ago I was talking to George Clooney and Tom Hanks and people might go 'what is Jermaine doing speaking to them?' but I do it and I enjoy it, I love it."

The move to Formula E marks the latest non-football-based TV project for Jenas, who has been a regular on BBC's The One Show since 2020.

If you Google his name, he comes up as primarily a 'television presenter' now, rather than a former football player.

"It's what my kids think about me now," Jenas quips. "My kids barely know that I played football. One of my goals will pop up on telly and they are like 'is that you?!'

"It's a weird thing. My whole dream as a kid was to be a professional footballer so it's nice to have that part of my life and that library of what I achieved then. It is also nice to bookmark it and say 'this is the next stage of my life'.

"For everyone going into retirement, it is important to do. Enjoy the past, but don't dwell on it and focus on the new thing that is ahead of you."
