My highlight as a kid every birthday and Christmas would be tearing open the wrapping paper to discover the kit of Rangers, my idols.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As a boy, I watched them win cup finals in front of 130,000 at Hampden.<\/p>\n
To finally pull on their royal blue shirt as a player at nearly 33 was special, particularly when I scored my first goal \u2014 a header of course \u2014 against St Mirren.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I wasn\u2019t there long but we won the league in 1988-89, the first of nine in a row, so I am part of the club\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
A funny memory was being called in by my manager at West Brom, Ron Atkinson, to say the team I\u2019d always wanted to play for had made a bid.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I joked I was too old for Real Madrid \u2014 when he confirmed it was Rangers, I jumped in my car to sign.<\/p>\n
