RB Leipzig have told Timo Werner that he can leave if he wants to, according to reports. The Bundesliga side would prefer the striker to stay but won’t stand in his way if he wants to move to the likes of Manchester United.

Werner rejoined Leipzig after two years at Chelsea in the summer of 2022. However, he has been unable to be as prolific in front of goal as he was during his first spell at the club.

He scored just nine league goals last season and has just two to his name so far this term, starting just twice in the German top flight. Werner still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at Leipzig.

United have been linked with bringing the 27-year-old back to the Premier League despite his unsuccessful time at Stamford Bridge. And it appears they won’t have many obstacles in their way if they do choose to pursue the forward.

It was stressed to him that they would like him to stay and do all they can to change his fortunes after a difficult start to the campaign.

However, Werner was also told that if he wanted to leave, Leipzig would grant him an exit. United are said to be one of several teams from England who have enquired about the possibility of signing Werner.

The report says he is not currently planning on leaving in January. United may have to convince the player if they plan on bringing him in next month.

Werner is currently nursing an adductor injury which has forced him out of action since early November. The Germany international first moved to England in 2020, joining Chelsea for £45million after the Blues beat Liverpool to his signature.
