Listen to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Son Heung-min credited Harry Kane for his development as a footballer after he turned in a sparkling performance and scored a penalty against Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p>The forward assisted twice and scored a penalty as Spurs ran rampant against a despondent Newcastle side.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Son started on the left flank in a tactical switch-up from Ange Postecoglou, with Brennan Johnson playing on the right wing.<\/p>\n<p>While he insisted that he learned a lot from Kane, Spurs&#8217; former captain who left for Bayern Munich in the summer, pundits waxed lyrical about him after the match.<\/p>\n<p>Son told Sky Sports: &#8216;I thought today was fantastic. I hope we can continue to perform like this and stay humble.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/10\/20\/78796011-0-image-a-1_1702238765920.jpg\" height=\"392\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Son Heung-min claims he learned a lot from Harry Kane after scoring a penalty against Newcastle &#8211; the old responsibility of Spurs&#8217; former striker<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/10\/20\/78796037-0-image-a-2_1702238955956.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Pundits were amazed at his shining performance and Michael Dawson praised him for taking on more responsibility<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/10\/20\/78796115-0-image-a-3_1702239335673.jpg\" height=\"442\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Kane and Son shared a good relationship but as the striker and Hugo Lloris departed in the summer, Son has assumed the armband\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We said we had to be more ruthless. We were ruthless today and were creating chances. To beat Newcastle 4-1 is not easy. They are a very strong side, so credit all the players and fans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We have to demand more and more from each other. It&#8217;s never enough. Those amazing teams always keep going. It should be a habit for us. If we continue to be strong like this, we will be a very good side.<\/p>\n<p>About taking a penalty, he said: &#8216;Shall we call Harry [Kane] back? I practiced all the time, even when Harry was here. And I learned a lot from him.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>On the left side of the pitch, Son caused particular trouble for Kieran Trippier, who was tasked with marking him.<\/p>\n<p>For both of Spurs&#8217; first-half goals, Son beat the Newcastle right-back with a step over in the box before fizzing a pass across goal, which Destiny Udogie and Richarlison duly lapped up.<\/p>\n<p>Richarlison would net again in the second half before Son scored from the penalty spot to condemn the Magpies to a heavy defeat, albeit one uplifted by a late Joelinton consolation.<\/p>\n<p>After the match, Michael Dawson and Jamie Redknapp were overawed by Son as well as Postecoglou&#8217;s inverted full-back strategy, which involves asking the right-back and left-back to effectively act as central midfielders while one&#8217;s team are in possession.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dawson said: &#8216;He [Son] is\u00a0definitely taking more responsibility. There&#8217;s no denying that everyone always looked to Harry [Kane] to get Spurs out of trouble. And he did that nine times out of 10, scoring goals. But now he is not playing, he has left.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Son puts a smile on your face when you listen to him now, but you listen to him on Thursday when they got beat, and for me didn&#8217;t deserve two mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;That can happen in football but they certainly got the best today and they were absolutely magnificent from start to finish.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Redknapp said: &#8216;They started the game you felt that Son might come and play on this left-hand side now that&#8217;s certainly where the first goal come from as well.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/10\/20\/78796149-0-image-a-5_1702239447495.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Dawson praised the inverted full-back system which has helped Spurs get on the front foot in a different way\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/10\/20\/78796163-0-image-a-6_1702239522515.jpg\" height=\"894\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Jamie Redknapp pointed to Son&#8217;s move over to the left wing as the source of Spurs&#8217; first goal<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/10\/20\/78792679-0-image-a-7_1702239562697.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Destiny Udogie burst into the box from a central area to tap in from Son&#8217;s cross, while Kieran Trippier struggled to contain Spurs&#8217; left-winger<\/p>\n<p>Dawson said: &#8216;Yeah, I mean, look, you said about Kieran Trippier having nightmares thinking of Son tonight after he played with him and it caused him a hard afternoon. I mean, you look at [Destiny] Udogie and Pedro Porro. I thought Pedro Porro was absolutely magnificent, his passing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Combined together, two inverted full-backs, it&#8217;s mind blowing the way the player doesn&#8217;t just get the ball, but what Udogie does, he gets it in the middle of the field.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Do you think he&#8217;s not yet actually left-back when he picks it up? He didn&#8217;t just stand still &#8211;\u00a0 he runs, he gets in the box. And when you&#8217;ve got someone, someone who&#8217;s on the ball, yeah, 100 per cent, you see him there, I think we said we&#8217;re off-air.
