Jamie Carragher has shared an old post from Gary Neville on social media site X in order to mock his fellow Sky pundit.

The two former footballers have formed quite the rivalry on screen and online, with Carragher having played for Liverpool and Neville Manchester United.

They have regularly aimed digs at each other when one of the teams perform below par, and Neville has also often been critical of his former side given their decline since he left the club.

And Carragher wasn’t going to pass at the opportunity to mock Neville when Manchester United were dumped out of European competition on Tuesday following their defeat to Bayern Munich.

The ex-Liverpool man took to social media to share a post from Neville about Liverpool, seemingly suggesting it now applies to Manchester United.

Liverpool had a difficult season last year, falling short in the Champions League and failing to finish in the top four to secure a spot in this season’s competition as they ended up fifth.

Much was made of a re-boot being needed with the Reds, and that they did as they went into the transfer market to sign the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.

United, meanwhile, finished third in the league last season in Erik ten Hag’s first campaign in charge, looking like they had finally turned a corner after many turbulent years.

This year has again been a slog however, and Carragher shared a post from Neville that was originally put out in May, that read: ‘Klopp needs to rebuild an ageing squad but no CL is a lot of money lost and they don’t just need 1 or 2!’
