Levi Colwill has been defended by Tom Garratt after a video of the former professional rugby player scoring a goal against the 20-year-old Chelsea star went viral. Garratt joined ChrisMD on his YouTube channel for a football challenge that saw several big-name content creators pit their skills up against defenders of varying quality.

ChrisMD teamed up with the likes of Danny Aarons, Manny and Yung Filly for the video, entitled “Every Time You Score, the Defender Gets Upgraded”. As the title suggests, ChrisMD and Co attempted to score against players from “YouTuber level” -Sidemen member Wroetoshaw – all the way up to a proven Champions League footballer – RB Salzburg’s Mads Bidstrup.

Garratt, who co-hosts the popular Pitchside podcast, was Chris MD’s guest for one of the final days of the shoot when they squared off against Colwill in a one-on-one attacker vs defender drill. After multiple failed attempts, Garratt finally broke the deadlock by wrong-footing the Chelsea defender before rifling the ball into the bottom corner.

The clip made the rounds on social media with many football fans insisting Colwill had ’embarrassed’ himself but the video lacked context. “Can we all calm down please this is after about 40 attempts where he made us look like little boys,” tweeted Garratt accompanied by a string of laughing emojis.

“I’m not sure a ChrisMD video is his World Cup Final,” quipped ChrisMD on Twitter. “After 30 attempts of pocketing us he’s not even trying to block the shot lads hahaha.”

Besides Colwill and Bidstrup, the YouTubers also took on professional footballers from the top five levels of the football pyramid. Representing the National League was Dagenham and Redbridge’s Aidan Francis-Clarke, then came League Two defender Paul Kalambayi of Wimbledon and League One representative Ryan Tafazolli, formerly of Southampton, now plying his trade with Wycombe Wanderers.
