Manchester United will reportedly be dealt a major financial blow when compared to last season that could leave Sir Jim Ratcliffe frustrated upon his arrival at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have endured a torrid campaign so far, losing over half of their games in all competitions and crashing out of the Champions League group stages earlier this month.<\/p>\n

United’s early exit from Europe is set to have a significant impact on their finances, given that FFP rules mean they need to generate as much of their own cash as possible. A reduced number of home games thanks to their Champions League elimination could see United face a \u00a340million hit, according to The Independent.<\/p>\n

Last season, the Red Devils played 33 home games in total and raked in their biggest ever matchday revenue of \u00a3136.4m, which averages at just over \u00a34m per match. United could end up playing just 23 games at Old Trafford this time around, though, which will see them miss out on around \u00a340m in lost revenue.<\/p>\n

United also missed out on an initial \u00a38.2m from UEFA, which they would have received if they had reached the knockout stages of the Champions League. Another \u00a345m would have been up for grabs if they had won the competition, but they only ended up taking around \u00a33m after earning just four points in their six group matches.<\/p>\n

It will come as a frustrating blow to Ratcliffe, who is expected to take charge of United’s football operations after purchasing a minority stake in the club. He will certainly need money to be successful in the transfer market and the club’s latest financial blow could see him forced to operate on a tighter budget than he would ideally like.<\/p>\n

United’s misfiring squad is in desperate need of a revamp, with plenty of deadwood stinking up the place and fringe players like Jadon Sancho taking up a huge portion of the wage budget. As a result, it seems likely that the Red Devils will be forced to sell before they can buy, an issue that will be compounded by their loss of earnings from home matchday revenue.<\/p>\n
