Leicester City fans taunted Birmingham City manager Wayne Rooney by wearing Jamie Vardy masks in the stands.

Rooney's side were hosting the Foxes in a clash many fans dubbed: 'the Wagatha Christie derby'. It is known as this due to the highly publicised libel court battle between Rooney's wife Coleen and Vardy's wife Rebekah. The legal battle, which was also re-created into a television series, concluded with Coleen losing the libel trial, which reportedly left her with legal bills of up to £3million.

For the first time since he became manager of Brum, Rooney was managing a side intent on overcoming Vardy's Foxes. In a bid to wind up the Manchester United legend, Leicester fans turned up at St. Andrews wearing Vardy masks.

Dozens of Leicester fans were wearing the comical masks in the stands. Considering the sheer number of supporters who had a paper picture of Vardy's face emblazoned over their's, it's likely Rooney saw the masks.

However, this would not have affected his focus, as he made it clear he did not want to think about the court case. In his press conference, he said: "I think what is important is we don’t get dragged into a sideshow about everything that has happened in the past, which everyone is aware has been dealt with from a legal point of view. My job is to focus on Birmingham trying to win the game."

He also said he has never really had a relationship with Vardy, despite the fact they shared a dressing room at the 2016 European Championships. "I played with him for England, the same as I played with many players for England," he said when asked about Vardy.

"He is not someone who I have ever had a relationship with, outside of being away on a training camp or being in games with him. I respect Jamie Vardy a lot – I think he is a fantastic player – he still has a lot to offer Leicester.

"In my opinion, Jamie Vardy is a fantastic player and has been for many years, a great servant for Leicester. Ultimately, the game is about Birmingham going to try and win the game. Anything else, there is nothing really to talk about."

Rooney's side came into the contest languishing in 17th position in the Championship, while Leicester are in first position and appear destined to secure automatic promotion back into the Premier League.
