Former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli star Ezequiel Lavezzi has been rushed to hospital with an abdominal wound, according to reports in South America.

It's understood the ex-winger, 38, who announced his retirement from football aged 34 in 2020, was hospitalised on December 20. It's currently unclear as to how Lavezzi, who accumulated 51 international caps for Argentina, suffered the injury.

As well as a wound to his abdomen, frequent reports from South America also claim he was also hospitalised with a broken collarbone. However, the circumstances in which he suffered his apparent wounds remains unconfirmed.

Sources close to Lavezzi's family say his injuries were caused by him falling off a ladder when he was trying to change a lightbulb, according to TYC Sports. However, EL Observador understands police forces in the area believe he was stabbed by a family member during a party in the Uruguayan upscale resort Jose Ignacio.

Observador also state the injury to his collarbone may have been caused by him hitting a piece of furniture during his fall. FM Gente also state Lavezzi and his girlfriend were both admitted to hospital.
