F1 star sends message to Martin Brundle after awkward grid walk snub

Oscar Piastri has made light of an awkward encounter with Martin Brundle after the Sky Sports pundit abruptly interrupted his own interview with the Formula One star.

On Sunday, Brundle was once again conducting his famous pre-race grid walk ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix.

With time running out before the national anthems and race start, he attempted to grab a quick word with Piastri, telling the McLaren driver: ‘Oscar, bad luck in qualifying, you’ve got some work to do in the race.’

The Aussie stopped to chat, replying: ‘Yeah, we’ll try out best and see if we can get…’ before he was abruptly cut off by Brundle himself as the 64-year-old called out to another driver who was walking by.

‘Esteban! Esteban! Happy birthday!’ Brundle shouted at Esteban Ocon, the Alpine driver who turned 27 on race day, with the Frenchman thanking him for his well-wishes.

Piastri was visibly surprised by the encounter and before his interview could resume he had walked off toward the front of the grid, leaving Brundle alone and red-faced.

Thankfully, all parties saw the funny side of things, with Piastri tweeting after the race: ‘Shall we finish that interview in Suzuka [the venue for this weekend’s race in Japan] Martin Brundle?
