F1 star’s mother jokes about Fernando Alonso at Brazilian Grand Prix

Oscar Piastri’s mother continued her social media antics ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, joking about Fernando Alonso in response to a fan’s tweet. The McLaren rookie swapped helmets with the two-time world champion during the triple header.

Piastri took to the X social media platform to show off the latest addition to his collection, posting a picture of the pair swapping helmets with the caption “Had his kart. Now I’ve got his helmet.”

One fan responded to the young Aussie’s post by writing: “The goat father and the goat son,” provoking a hilarious response from Mrs Piastri. Nicole, who is already well-known for her social media posts, replied: “Pretty sure I would’ve remembered that…”

Unfortunately for Piastri, his start to the weekend in Brazil offered little to be amused about. The rookie failed to score points in the sprint race after struggling to move forward from his tenth-placed sprint shootout finish. His team-mate, meanwhile, came across the line in P2 behind race-winner Max Verstappen.

There was, however, plenty more to celebrate for Alonso’s camp. The experienced Spaniard qualified on the second row of the grid alongside under-fire team-mate Lance Stroll. More crucially, Aston Martin’s pace looked to have taken a step forward after a difficult run of results.

Speaking about the performance of the Silverstone-based team, Alonso explained: “It was hard because the triple race now obviously put a lot of stress on everyone. It’s difficult to analyse data, it’s difficult to go back to the factory to reunite everyone.

“But the team was always working flat out to solve the problems, and to find solutions. And yeah, this performance here in Brazil is going in the right direction. I think especially after this race we have some kind of relief, some weight out of the shoulders from some people, and going into the right direction is a good boost for everyone in the factory.

“And we really needed this type of performance here in Brazil. If we had another weekend struggling maybe that was a little bit worrying, but we always kept pragmatic and doing some tests, some experiments, even if they were painful. And hopefully, we have a lot of data now to analyse everything.”
